Saikou Ceesay - Modern Artist and designer
Saikou Ceesay is a Gambian-born former professional footballer, now a visual artist and designer. For him, painting has become an alternative way to express himself and channel his innate rhythm when he is not on the football arenas. In his art, Ceesay creates daydream-like surprising moments and reflections. While most of his art is abstract, Ceesay has developed his own visual vocabulary and superior style. His works allows the viewer to be amazed at what is missing and what is found simultaneously.
“Painting for me is a means of escape, an opportunity for me to express how I feel. I also use it for sharing, in a sense that I can share my story or any story through my paintings in a way that I know best. I like my paintings to be seen, admired, criticized and disturbing even. I like to hide patterns in every piece which you will only see if you look closely and pay attention. You just have to pay attention to details. I don’t expect people to always see every single detail in every piece. After all, out of the 7.7 billion people on this planet, not even twins have similar Iris.” - Saikou Ceesay
Saikou’s Philosophy; “Being different challenges you to stand out, which might give you a feeling that you don’t belong or you are an outcast. However, you have to know that, those same attributes give you the power to do outstanding things and your mind to come up with extraordinary things like yourself, for you to create. Why do or be the same, if you can do and be better?
